Activity goals
Exploring new artistic techniques to create textures and relief patterns. Developing creativity and the ability to experiment with materials and colours. Improving eye-hand coordination through the application of glue and paint. Stimulating artistic curiosity and the sense of touch through the creation of 3D surfaces.
Materials needed
- PRIMO vinyl glue in a bottle with flow-control nozzle
- Wool threads, string or thin ropes
- Sheets of paper or thick cardboard
- Poster paint and brushes
- A water pot (to clean the brushes)
Activity
In order to well introduce the activity to children, it can be useful to explain that with simple means such as glue and wool threads, they can create complex patterns, resulting in unique textures. Before starting, examples of simple shapes such as spirals, wavy lines or geometric patterns can be shown.
- Preparing the relief pattern
Distribute the threads of wool or string to the children. Then show them how to use vinyl glue to fix the threads onto paper or cardboard, creating the desired design. Once the threads are fixed, allow the glue to dry completely to obtain a solid, raised pattern (this step can take some time, so it may be useful to take a break or prepare dry bases in advance). - Colouring and creating textures
Once the glue is well dried, invite the children to use PRIMO poster paint to paint over the relief motifs. Encourage the group to experiment with different colours and techniques, such as dry brushing (light brush strokes) to make the textures stand out or applying bright colours for more intense effects. - Observation of final work
To conclude the activity, we recommend inviting the children to observe their creations from different angles to notice the shadows and colour variations on the raised surfaces. Then discuss together the tactile and visual sensations their works convey.
Tips for parents and teachers
- Preparing some dry bases in advance can facilitate classroom or group activities.
- Encourage children to experiment with abstract or nature-inspired designs, such as flowers and leaves.
- Remind children that there is no wrong way to create: each relief pattern is a unique work of art!
- Remember to wash the brushes at the end of the activity.
PRIMO vinyl glue with flow-control nozzle offers a stimulating experience, transforming simple materials into extraordinary creations. Let children glue, explore, touch and colour to discover the world of art with enthusiasm and originality!
