Activity goals

Fostering motor, creative and writing skills in children through art; personalizing letters with creative details and the use of colour, making each composition unique and original. Developing eye-hand coordination. Stimulating creativity and imagination. Increasing awareness of the shape and position of letters within words. 

Materials required

• A New Way of Painting PRIMO poster paint bottles with flow-control nozzle 
• White or coloured paper sheets 
• Graphite pencil and eraser for preliminary sketches  

Activity 

1. Introduction to Lettering: explain to children what Lettering is and show examples of decorated and coloured letters.  
2. Preparing the letters: Each child chooses a letter (or letters) to draw and personalize. Draw a light draft of the letter in pencil. Encourage children to think of creative shapes to decorate the letters: curves, thicknesses, patterns.  
3. Decorating with A New Way of Painting PRIMO poster paint bottles: using these children paint and decorate their letters directly. Explain how to dose the paint correctly using the flow-control nozzle. Use the colours individually or experiment with shading and mixing.  
4. Showing and comparing final works: at the end of the activity, display the works to make children appreciate the different creations.
